Our Mission
Pioneering New and More Effective Methods for Career Advancement

As a higher echelon member of career management, job search coaching and resume writing communities for over 30  years, we separate ourselves from all other services, i.e. business writers, employment agencies, secretarial services and the myriad of  newly hatched and recently down-sized recruiters.

We are seasoned corporate recruiting, coaching and resume experts with long-time memberships in global and domestic employment communities. We are well-respected and practice with the highest integrity.

You can depend on Worthington Career Services for insight into career goals and all aspects of planning. Our credentials are impeccable and our endorsements, dating back to 1973, speak for themselves. Few resume firms offer our insights into the employment markets, corporate landscapes, economic indicators and potent methodologies that allow Worthington Career candidates to surpass all others.

You may not know it, but it is often not the most qualified candidate who gets the job! It's the one who presents himself in the best light that matters. The one with the most powerful resume presentation, the one most prepared for the interview … the one sometimes least likely to win but who is afforded the competitive edge!  What makes a Manager, Director or C-level select a Worthington Career candidate from hundreds of resume submissions? Why are Worthington Career Services' candidates granted job offers?

You've heard the expression, "Almost doesn't count." Well in applying for a job this couldn't be closer to the truth! Applicants today are up against hundreds--even thousands, of other applicants for usually one position, one opening! Those odds are very slim. And though coming in second place counts for something in the Olympics, a runner-up job candidate is still without a job.

Worthington Career Services' Executive Director personally works with all clients, both domestically and internationally. Our entry-level clients are afforded the same level of commitment as our CEO, CFO, COO and CIO candidates. Every project is awarded individualized attention and strategies are configured to optimize personal advancement. Special issues, i.e., "myths of maturity", terminations, reference issues and lack of undergraduate and graduate degrees require tactical consideration that our employment expertise is well-prepared to offer.

By both example and reputation, Janice is the best I have met in the arena of career coaching. I have had the pleasure to watch her in action at various functions around town, read her articles in Business First and elsewhere, and talk to her clients. From a client perspective, she has the kind of professional reputation that most of us dream of. I have talked to numerous people who have used Worthington Career Services, and they are all complimentary on the counsel and guidance she provides. If you are struggling with your employment search, or looking at a change in your career direction or employment situation, this is who you call.”

... Rich Grunenwald , Managing Director , COMSYS

“In an age where it can become difficult to stand out from the crowd, Janice is the resource I recommend my clients to go to for help. Whether it is creating a resume, or helping my clients get hired with her interview techniques, Janice brings tremendous value to recruiters and candidates alike in seeking new positions.”

... Chris Gardner , Owner , Artemis Consultants

“Janice is one of the best resume writers we have come across in the country. Her style is very detail-oriented and without fail always brings results allowing us to make senior executive placements. She is a true professional that I will continue to refer to. Never have I seen resumes that produce hires like hers.”

... Janis Mitchell , President and CEO , Precise Resource

"I highly recommend Janice and Worthington Career Services. Over better than 25 years in the search business I have recommended Janice to my candidates. The professional product that was put forth 'sold' the candidates' accomplishments and made them desirable for a client to review and possibly hire. She is an expert in her field and people seek her advice during their employment searches. I couldn't recommend her more strongly."

Rewinding Your Perspective…Fast Forwarding Your Hire!
My clients are in the trenches. They send out their résumés, interview their hearts out, follow-up faithfully and play the waiting game. My clients are an interesting group. They are on their home turfs passing judgment in positions of authority on Monday and sitting in my office in positions of vulnerability by Friday.

I am the coach and they are the players. I teach job search to clients and they teach me lessons learned from their career lives. Sometimes my clients are too close to their lessons to receive critical messages but that’s where I come in. If they could do it over again here’s what some of my most prominent folks would do differently:

I Wish Would Have Taken That Lateral Offer: I would have had the opportunity to gain the experience, perhaps temporarily sacrificing income, that would have taken me from the specialized director I am today to the executive vice president of CEO level that I may never see. Today, because of the financial demands of older children, I can no longer afford the growth hiatus that I would now be able to leverage in the pinnacle of my career. Where did I learn that sideways was a wrong direction?

I Wish I Had Secured A Simple Letter of Reference
: I have been downsized and the company is gone but I am still a candidate out of a job, sometimes feeling that employers can’t help but question the nature of my job performance. If I had negotiated a written letter of reference from my direct supervisor showcasing my stellar contributions I could have avoid employer skepticism in advance. I wish I had gone to my colleagues and offered to reciprocate, doing the same for them.

I Wish I Would Have Kept Better Records of My Achievements: I was always taught that on résumés qualifications meant everything. I just figured that my degree, years of experience, positions held and functions performed would qualify me for the job. It should have occurred to me that others were also qualified but I used to see classified ads that seemed to have my name of them. They would require 5-10 years in the plastics industry, and R& D background and an MBA. But repeatedly I never got a call.

I Wish I Would Have Gone on That Interview: I didn’t because it was only Director –level with probably less than my current compensation as I had reached the Vice President level. I later read in Business First that one of my AMA pals, another EVP, was able to impress to the point that they re-classified the job to meet her requirements. If nothing else, my meeting could have been used for networking opportunities. But I pre-judged and didn’t want to waste my time. Sadder but wiser I would never repeat that behavior.

I Wish I Wouldn’t Have Told The Bossman to Take His Job & Shove It: I wish I hadn’t aired my grievances about Mr. Jones to my colleagues. My old employer is now in partnership with my current employer and it has put me in a potentially embarrassing position. I felt hurt and taken advantage of and maybe I was but I should have been more discreet. There’s an old song that says once spent, time, bad words or bullets you can’t take any of them back. Amen
